December 22, 2023

The staff of the Center for Humanitarian Demining and Special Works participated in the inspection of the territory for the presence of explosive objects (VOP), their subsequent removal and destruction on the land allocated for the development of a quarry for the construction of multi-storey residential buildings.

As a result of the work explosive objects were found during the Great Patriotic War.

Artillery and mortar shells from the Great Patriotic War are mainly among the discovered weapons.

All explosive objects found were removed from the surveyed areas and destroyed in strict accordance with all regulations.

Expert’s comment:
Searches for explosive objects from the Great Patriotic War and their destruction are regularly carried out in the Leningrad Region. This is due to the fact that some of the fiercest clashes took place here. Even despite the continuous demining carried out in the first post–war years, land owners often find unexploded shells and mines during land works – the earth “pushes” them to the surface. Therefore, a survey of the territory at the initial stages of construction for the presence of a VOP will allow you to avoid related problems in the future.
